The 2024 China County Tourism Development Research Report and the 2024 lists of China's top 100 counties in terms of comprehensive tourism strength and tourism development potential have been released recently. Three places from Changsha were included in the top 100 counties in comprehensive tourism strength. They are Liuyang County-level City, Changsha County, and Ningxiang County-level City, ranking 4th, 23rd, and 36th respectively. The rapid development of county tourism in Changsha highlights the surging vitality of the city's cultural tourism.

The report is an outcome of the sixth National County Tourism Research by the National County Tourism Research Team and the Huaxia Baiqiang Tourism Consulting Center. The comprehensive tourism strength of counties was assessed based on 32 indicators in six dimensions, namely, tourism economy development level, the promotion role of governments, comprehensive driving function of the tourism industry, tourism development and environmental protection, tourism facilities and service functions, and tourism quality supervision and market supervision. 

The tourism development potential index system encompasses 20 indicators in five aspects: tourism resource potential, tourism market potential, tourism development benefits, and social and economic support conditions. 

This year's county tourism research targeted 1,866 counties in the Chinese mainland, including county-level cities, autonomous counties, banners, autonomous banners, and forestry areas.

This year, Liuyang maintained its 4th spot in the ranking for the second time. Changsha County jumped from 27th in 2023 to 23rd this year. Ningxiang moved up one place, ranking 36th this year.
