Hunan's construction machinery export value increased by 16.6% to 2.3 billion CNY in August, according to the Changsha Customs Authority on September 18, 2024. In the first eight months of this year, Hunan has exported 21.75 billion CNY of construction machinery, growing by 24.1% year on year.

Private businesses have played a leading role, while foreign-funded and state-owned enterprises kept growing. Between January and August, Hunan's private businesses have exported 13.68 billion CNY of construction machinery, growing by 29.6% and accounting for 62.9% of the province's total. The construction machinery export value of the foreign-funded enterprises rose 16% to 7.97 billion CNY, while that of the state-owned enterprises hit 100 million CNY, up 3.9%.

The exports to EU and Africa surged sharply. In particular, the export value to Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and the Netherlands has multiplied. In the first eight months, Hunan has exported 2.76 billion CNY of construction machinery to 27 EU countries, increasing by 99.9%; and, 1.54 billion CNY to African countries, growing by 44.1%. Meanwhile, the exports to the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 14.85 billion CNY, growing by 16.7%. The export value to Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and the Netherlands was 2.62 billion CNY, 1.26 billion CNY, and 1.19 billion CNY, up 106.6%, 121.4%, and 210.3% respectively.

Changsha has contributed more than 90% of the province's total export of construction machinery, while Zhuzhou and Xiangtan have seen manifold increase. From January to August, Changsha's construction machinery export value amounted to 20.12 billion CNY, increasing by 29% year on year and accounting for 92.5% of the province's total. The export value of Zhuzhou and Xiangtan hit 110 million CNY and 96.677 million CNY, increasing by 14.3 times and 139.6%, respectively.

"Other BRICS countries will provide new opportunities for Hunan's construction machinery business," said an officer of the Changsha Customs Authority. In the first eight months, Hunan has exported 9.69 billion CNY of construction machinery to other BRICS countries, rising by 37.8%, and 16.7 percentage points higher than the national figure. Four of the five largest importers of Hunan's construction machinery are BRICS countries, namely, Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, and Brazil.
