The XTERRA Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Event, part of the 2024 XTERRA Trail Run World Series, will kick off at the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park on October 27. A total of 2,000 Chinese and foreign trail running enthusiasts will compete among perilous peaks.

The event will feature a 10km sprint, a 25km trail half marathon, and a 50km trail marathon.

The route of the 10km sprint starts at the Wujiayu Ticket Station, passes through Caijiayu and the Tianzi Mountain Cableway Lower Station, and finally ends at the Tianzi Mountain Cableway Upper Station, which is at an altitude of 1,262 meters.

The route of the 25km trail half marathon starts at the Wujiayu Ticket Station, passes through Caijiayu, the Tianzi Mountain Cableway Lower Station, the Tianzi Mountain Cableway Upper Station, and Liaojiajie-Xierenya. It then descends through jungles and ravines, finishing back at the Wujiayu Ticket Station.

The route of the 50km trail marathon will be the longest and most challenging route, with 950 competitors. The participants will start at the Wujiayu Ticket Station, run across mountains along Wuling Road, Gaoyun Road, Zhangsanjie forestry farm, Luomayu, Shuiraosimen, and Xianren Bridge to reach the Tianzi Mountain Cableway Upper Station. They will pass through Liaojiajie-Xierenya and then descend through jungles and ravines, finishing back at the Wujiayu Ticket Station.

Since its inception nearly 30 years ago, XTERRA has organized more than 300 events in 47 countries and regions around the world, with its participants ranging in age from 5 to 81 years.

This is the first time for Zhangjiajie to host XTERRA event, and it is the first event of the XTERRA Trail Run World Series this year. A total of 232 outstanding runners in this event will get the opportunity to compete for the champions in the trail marathon and the trail half marathon in the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship 2025, which will be held at the Snowdonia National Park in Wales, United Kingdom on July 11 and 12 next year.
