Recently, Great Liling Kiln Site made the list of the six batch of national industrial heritage sites, and Anhua First Tea Factory was selected among the second batch of national industrial heritage sites through review.
The Great Liling Kiln Site is the largest ancient kiln site cluster in China, which records the development and achievements of the Liling ceramic industry from Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 years) to the present. It represents a large group of ruins that is well-preserved and offers high historical and social value.
In particular, the site mainly consists of the Weishan Kiln Area and Guoguang Ceramics Factory.
Located in Weishan Village, Weishan Town, the Weishan Kiln site boasts beautiful natural environment and profound historical culture. The village has a bounty of high-quality porcelain clay and one-thousand-year history of porcelain making, lasting from the Song Dynasty to the 1980s.
The village is home to more than 190 cultural relics such as ancient kiln sites, porcelain clay mines, and mud refining workshops.
The site serves as an important window for studying traditional porcelain-making skills, history and culture of Liling Kiln.
Founded in 1958, the Guoguang Ceramics Factory was originally the local state-owned Liling Export Ceramics Factory.
Its high-temperature white porcelain products won many gold medals from the former Ministry of Light Industry, and were the “witnesses” and “creators” of the peak period of Liling ceramics industry in the 20th century.
At the end of 2022, Liling Kiln became a national 3A level tourist attraction, in which the Yuexingwan ancient kiln factory, Shuili mud refining workshop, and Weishan Ancient Tower had been opened to the public, and the walking trail of Fengshupo Ancient Road had been renovated.
Located in Youzhou, Dongping Town, Anhua County, Yiyang City, Anhua First Tea Factory covers an area of about 120 mu (8 hectares), with convenient transportation.
The tea factory was a tea shop founded by Jin merchants in 1902, with a history of over 100 years. It’s the first and largest state-owned enterprise in Hunan Province to process dark and black tea after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
There are iconic buildings in the factory area that witness the development of Chinese tea, such as the century-old wooden warehouse (1902), serrated workshop (1950), and the original tea factory gate archway (1902).
It collects precious tea standard samples and documents from the 1940s to the present day, known as the “living museum for Anhua Tea”.
