The 4th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Cup was held in Miluo City, Yueyang City, Hunan Province on October 26. 11 teams from Asia, Europe, America and Oceania competed on Miluo River.
The event is held every two years with 12 teams that rank among the top in the World Dragon Boat Championships qualifying for the race.
The teams competed in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 500-meter race for standard dragon boats, as well as the 400-meter relay and 1,000-meter relay for small dragon boats. Meanwhile, 12 local teams from Miluo also participated in the standard dragon boat race.
“The dragon boat race is an important part of Chinese traditional culture, conveying the lofty spirits of friendship, peace and solidarity.” Claudio Schermi, president of IDBF, hoped that the dragon boat race could one day become an Olympic project and show the world its fighting strength and team spirit.
“The dragon boat sport is developing rapidly in Australia, and almost all cities have different competitions.” Daniel Ernest Foucar, captain of the Australian team, said that after learning that dragon boat originated in Miluo, he was very happy to participate in the event here. He looked forward to enhancing his understanding of Chinese dragon boat culture and sports and improving the dragon boat competitive level of the team members through this competition.
Miluo is the birthplace of dragon boat culture, known as “the source of the Dragon Boat Festival”, “the hometown of dragon boats” and “the hometown of poetry”.
Since 2005, Miluo has successfully held the China (Miluo) International Dragon Boat Festival for 19 consecutive years. And Miluo City was approved as a national famous dragon boat city in China in 2008.
