The "Building Bridges for the Future" event was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from November 1 to 4, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between UAE and China. At the invitation of the Qasr Al Watan and the China Cultural Center, a Hunan cultural exchange delegation organized by the Hunan Federation of Literary and Art Circles attended the event in Abu Dhabi.
The opening ceremony was attended by Zhang Yiming, Chinese ambassador to the UAE; Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, UAE minister of Culture and Youth; Ahmed Bin Ali Al Sayegh, UAE minister of State; Mohamed Al Mubarak, chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority; and, the Hunan cultural art delegation, among others.
Zhang Chun, head of the Hunan delegation, presented a calligraphy work created by a Hunan artist to the organizing committee of the UAE side. The gift served as a witness of China-UAE friendship.
The event featured three parts: the past, the present, and the future, reflecting on the friendly exchanges between the two countries in the past four decades through art performances, exhibitions, and cultural experiences. The celebrations showcased the two nations' fruitful achievements in the fields of politics; economy and trade; science and technology; culture; tourism; and, education.
Hunan cultural legacies including traditional Chinese fan painting, palm fibre weaving, and calligraphy works presented by the Hunan delegation took center stage at the event, showcasing Hunan's profound history and unique local features. The "Writing Your Own Chinese Name" activity was warmly received. Participants learned to write their Chinese names which were transliterated from their English names. This not only reflected the charm of Chinese calligraphy but also enriched interactive experience of the participants.
