The 12th World Integrative Medicine Congress (WIMCO 2024) kicked off in Changsha on November 9. Hunan Vice Governor Jiang Difei attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

Hunan is a powerhouse of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with rich medical resources. It boasts rich Chinese herbal medicines, profound TCM culture, comprehensive medical system, and strong technical expertise. In recent years, Hunan has been dedicated to prioritizing people's health by accelerating the integration and innovation of TCM and Western medicine, promoting powerful combination of high-level TCM, general, and specialist hospitals, and continuing to advance the coordinated development of both medical systems.

Themed "High-quality Development of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine", the WIMCO 2024 was organized by the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine. It consisted of the Opening Ceremony and Plenary Session, Clinical Medicine Session, Pharmaceutical Session, Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Session, Youth Session, and Hunan Session. There were also nine branch venues held by various committees, including the Kidney Disease Specialty Committee, the Pain Medicine Specialty Committee, the Diagnostics Specialty Committee, the Perioperative Period and Anesthesiology Specialty Committee, and the Perinatology Specialty Committee.

More than 4,300 experts and scholars in the field of integrated Chinese and Western medicine at home and abroad attended, including 17 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as 30 expert representatives from 16 countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. The congress comprehensively demonstrated the innovative achievements in the field of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in recent years; conducted in-depth exchanges on basic research, clinical practice, efficacy evaluation, discipline construction, talent training, and sci-tech transfer application; and, explored new ideas, methods, and paths for the development of integrated Chinese and Western medicine, so as to boost the high-quality development of integrated Chinese and Western medicine.
