The First National Youth Games for Football, Basketball, and Volleyball of the People's Republic of China is being held in Changsha and Yueyang. Recently, a study tour on culture, tourism, and sports was launched at the Yueyang Tower Scenic Area. The event enabled participants to gain insight into the profound history of the tower, admire the spectacular scenery of Dongting Lake from the tower, and have a time-travel dialogue with a staff member portraying "Teng Zijing", head of Baling Prefecture during the reign of Qingli period (1041-1048).

An African friend from the Hecun African Cultural Park in Changsha taught "Teng Zijing" how to play the African drum and sang together with children, attracting many tourists.Yueyang Tower was built near Dongting Lake. Its predecessor was the military parade building of Lu Su, a general of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period (220 AD - 280 AD). The tower enjoys a history of nearly 1,800 years. Since the beginning of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the building has gradually become a resort of sightseeing and poetry creation for tourists and literati from all generations. Fan Zhongyan wrote an essay for the building titled "Note on Yueyang Tower" that has been passed down through the ages. Outstanding poets such as Li Bai, Du Fu, and Meng Haoran created famous poems at this site.
