Huaihua Handles over 900 Freight Train Trips to ASEAN Countries

As of November 24, Hunan Huaihua International Land Port has handled more than 900 freight train trips to ASEAN countries in 2024, nearly two times that of 455 trips last year, data from the Hunan Huaihua International Land Port Development Co., Ltd. showed on November 25. A total of 296 China-Laos freight trains have been handled, making the port continue to rank first in central China.

Huaihua is a member of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor "13+2" inter-provincial coordination and cooperation mechanism, and the only ASEAN-oriented freight train assembly center in Hunan Province. By 2025, Huaihua International Land Port will have handled more than 1,000 freight train trips, with a cargo throughout of over 10 million tonnes and the transported goods valued at more than 100 billion CNY.

According to a three-province cooperation agreement, Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces have strengthened regional collaboration since 2023. They have taken advantage of the Huaihua International Land Port to dock with ASEAN. At present, Huaihua International Land Port has opened seven international logistics channels. It collaborates with the Beibu Gulf Port, Guangzhou Port, Shenzhen Port, and Zhanjiang Port to provide maritime trade services, and links to the China-Laos, China-Vietnam, China-Myanmar railways. The port's freight train service has reached 107 ports and stations in 41 countries and regions around the world, transporting 167 types of goods in 16 categories.

In 2024, the frequency of fixed-scheduled China-Laos freight train services in Huaihua International Land Port has increased from one train per week to three trains. The port has also increased transport capacity via the Hunan-Yunnan Lancang-Mekong Express service. The import of cassava starch, ore, and other goods from Laos and Thailand has experienced a steady growth. Among them, the import of cassava starch has reached 3,734 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 356%, with goods valued at 150 million CNY and a total weight of nearly 50,000 tonnes. A cassava starch distribution center is taking shape in Huaihua.
