Since China granted unilateral 15-day visa-free entry for 15 days to travelers holding passports issued by South Korea on November 8 this year, South Korea’s travel bookings to China have shown a surge.
From November 8 to December 2, South Korea’s inbound travel orders increased by about 15% month-to-month, and the year-on-year growth was as high as over 150%.
About 40% of tourists from South Korea came to China for travel on Fridays and Saturdays.
According to South Korea’s SBS TV, many young people in South Korea choose to go on a trip to China after work on Friday.
The visa-free policy has provided more convenience for South Korean tourists and further driven the prosperity of Zhangjiajie’s tourism market.
“Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of South Korean tourists, including group tours and individual tours. Especially on weekends, there are more young people,” said Yin Rensong, a South Korean tour guide in Zhangjiajie.
Since the beginning of this year, Zhangjiajie has seen booming inbound tourism. Data showed that in the first three quarters, Zhangjiajie received 1,294,300 inbound tourists and generated inbound tourism income of over 358 million dollars, an increase of 255.47% and 307.61% respectively. Zhangjiajie receives overseas tourists from 183 countries and regions, and South Korea is one of the largest source countries.
