The Jinwei Isle Second Line Ship Lock, a major water transportation construction project in Hunan Province aimed at promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt initiative, officially opened on January 9, 2025. Upon operation, the 641 kilometers of high-level waterway from the Yueyang Chenglingji Port to Yongzhou Wuxi Hub has been fully connected. This has positive strategic significance for building a comprehensive transportation hub system, meeting the fast-growing demand for freight transportation in the hinterland, and promoting the industrial layout along the rivers and the regional economic development. In the long run, it will be of strategic importance for connection between the Yangtze River system and the Pearl River system, and the opening of the Hubei-Hunan-Guizhou Canal, which is the second opening up channel of Hunan Province.
