The second day of the Chinese New Year is also known as “the Day of Returning to Parents’ Home for Married Women”. On this day, married daughters traditionally visit their parents' home with their families to extend New Year’s greetings. They bring gifts and red envelopes for the younger kids there, where they also enjoy a special lunch called the "First Meal of the Chinese New Year", with dishes served often carrying auspicious meanings, like chickens suggesting "great fortune and smooth sailing" and Chinese chives implying "everlasting and enduring", which reflect people's aspirations for a better life.

大年初二，也叫“回门日”。按照传统习俗，出嫁的女儿会在这天带着丈夫及儿女回娘家拜年。回娘家的女儿通常会携带一些礼物和红包分给娘家的小孩们，并且在娘家吃午饭。这天的中午饭称为“开年饭”，菜式大多有着吉祥的寓意，例如鸡寓意“大吉大利”，韭菜寓意“长长久久”，寄托了人们对美好生活的向往。
