The Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, is the most important festival in China – a time for family reunions, traditions, and preparing for the year ahead. A variety of activities are scheduled to be held across Hunan to celebrate the new year.
Duration: January 24 to March 1
Venue: Hongjiang Ancient Commercial Town, Huaihua
Activities: Celebrations on seven themes will be held: folk customs experience—making ciba, tasting local snacks, presenting and pasting Spring Festival couplets, and enjoying a long-table banquet; Spring Festival dragon parade; cultural activities and performances in the guild halls of Hongjiang merchants; tour of nostalgic scenes and oldies on Fanghua Avenue; Lantern Festival dragon parade; and, the 4th Xiaoxiang Dragon Dance Competition and folk custom shows.
Duration: January 10 to March 10
Venue: Hongjiang City
Activities: A photo contest themed around the flavors of the Spring Festival is underway, inviting photographers and photography enthusiasts to capture pictures of Chinese New Year customs and celebrations in Hongjiang City through their lenses.
Duration: January 20 to March 20
Venue: Hanshou County, Changde
Activities: A low-altitude air route is launched to entertain aviation amateurs. The route starts from Shuangqu Road at the west side of the Hanshou High-speed Railway Station. Taking the aircraft, passengers can reach tourist attractions and destinations around Changde City, including the Changde Wildlife World, Hanshou county town, Liuye Lake, Taiyang Mountain, and Hejie Street.
