On February 5, a freight train loaded with 35 TEUs of chemical products was launched in Zhuzhou, heading for Vietnam through the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport service.

The Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport has witnessed steady growth. Since the beginning of this year, a total of 52 freight trains carrying 4,233 TEUs of goods have been handled through this channel.

The Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport service is a part of Hunan's layout of five major international logistics channels. The main freight assembly center, which also serves as the launching station, was set up in Zhuzhou, with connections to two sub-centers in Hengyang and Chenzhou. It collects foreign trade goods from Hunan and other provinces in central and western regions of China, transporting them to ports in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area via railways, and then transferring them for shipment to Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Initiated in September 2021, it has become Hunan's most significant southward logistics channel for "going global", featuring the largest freight volume and shortest transport time.

Relying on the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport service, a "six-in-one" logistics mode integrating railway, road, waterway, sea, and air transport as well as cold chain transport is to be formed, according to a manager of the Zhuzhou Modern Logistics Group. Zhuzhou has set an annual goal that the number of freight trains for rail-sea intermodal transport will exceed 600 and the container throughput hit 100,000 TEUs. The freight trains heading to Africa is expected to increase by over 50%, which will continuously enhance regional logistics and foreign trade and economic cooperation.
