The "Bright Journey" of China's Zimbabwe Cataract Surgery Medical Team set out on the early morning of February 12, 2025. The medical expert group will carry out about 600 free cataract surgeries between February 13 and March 2, 2025. The team will also launch surgical demonstrations and training programs, academic exchanges, ophthalmology popularization lectures and other activities. This program aims at developing cooperation and exchanges between China and Zimbabwe.

The year of 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of China's (Hunan) medical aid to Zimbabwe. This "Bright Journey" is the first activity in celebration of the anniversary, and an important initiative to promote China-Africa healthcare partnership. Comrades in charge of relevant departments went to the airport to see the team off, and encouraged the experts to use their superb medical skills to benefit the local people. The move will better tell China's story through concrete actions, thus making greater contributions to the building of a global community of healthcare for all.

Over the past 40 years, Hunan Province has implemented an array of projects in Zimbabwe, including the building of mechanisms for mutual cooperation, maternal and child health, schistosomiasis prevention and treatment, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) training. The province has helped build such key departments as urology and critical respiratory care, and has set up the China-Zimbabwe Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Center for Telemedicine, and the First-response Training Center. Now, after forty years, 12 experts have set off on a new journey, inheriting the spirit of previous medical aid teams and exploring new modes of foreign medical aid in the new era. It is hoped that the "Bright Journey" medical experts will demonstrate their exquisite skills and benevolence to write a new chapter of medical cooperation between Hunan and Zimbabwe.
