Hunan Handles 145,000 Entry-Exit Trips During Spring Festival Travel Rush

During the Spring Festival travel rush period between January 14 and February 22, Hunan's ports of entry handled 145,000 entry-exit trips in total, increasing by 6.5% over the same period last year, according to the Hunan General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection. Among these trips, 64% were made by Chinese while 36% by foreign travelers.

During the period, 93,000 entry and exit trips were made by domestic residents, up 20% year on year. Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore were the most popular destinations for domestic travelers.

Foreign travelers made 52,000 entries and exits through Hunan's ports, among which 89% benefited from the visa-free transit policy. The top three sources of foreign travelers were South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia.

During the travel rush period, Hunan's ports have handled more than 900 entry-exit passenger flights, rising 7.2% over last year. The flights reached 15 cities in 11 countries and regions, including Nairobi of Kenya; London of the UK; Bangkok of Thailand; Seoul, Daegu, and Busan of South Korea; Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia; Singapore; Hanoi of Vietnam; Vientiane of Laos; Phnom Penh of Cambodia; Tokyo of Japan; and, Jakarta of Indonesia. The flights to and from Thailand were the most, accounting for 30% of the total, while those to and from South Korea and Malaysia respectively taking up 25% and 14%.
